We recognised our adopted son had speech delay at a young age. We had seen an NHS speech therapist but found the input limiting. Our son was supported at nursery by the nursery teachers, but we felt more input was needed. We approached Sarah at SLT Leeds. Sarah was incredibly supportive and flexible with her approach. We felt listened to and our needs accommodated. We initially met on a weekly basis. It was useful to have regular assessments to see how he was progressing. Each week we would come away with some useful tools to use at home. Sarah, interacted with our son in a professional way, but also in an engaging way. She has an array of games and toys he uses. Our son can be lively and restless, but she managed this well.

When our son moved to primary school, which had input from SLT, Sarah worked with them to support his development. She also worked with the teachers, giving them techniques to help him. During the Covid lockdowns, we continued to see Sarah and she used the appropriate PPE. When it was not possible to meet, the sessions were done virtually at school. This shows how flexible and adaptable Sarah is in her approach.

Sarah has proved us with regular reports on progress and lots of information and activities for us to do at home to support his speech. So now just under 2 years later, we have a son who is talking a lot more, but more importantly is understood much more. This has boosted his confidence and overall resulted in a happier boy. We cannot thank Sarah enough and for the way she has worked with us not only with a little boy who would not always engage, but also in very testing times.

People could barely understand the speech of our 4-year-old but after 12 months of weekly sessions with Sarah and the daily recommended homework; his speech is now where it should be for his age group.

I have turned to Sarah for guidance relating to employees in two separate businesses;  whilst I was Head of HR operating in the public sector and more latterly whilst working as a consultant and providing advice to a SME in the private sector.  I turned to Sarah on the second occasion because the advice that she was able to provide on the first occasion was excellent.  It was our first experience of identifying appropriate support to an employee who was on the autistic spectrum.  The insight that Sarah gave me enabled us to better understand the challenges faced by the employee and ultimately to enable the employee to reach their potential in their job.


I was much more confident in seeking Sarah’s guidance on the next occasion and it was absolutely invaluable as she taught me how to communicate with an employee who was extremely capable, and intelligent but who found the work environment and protocols difficult.  Sarah guided us in how to approach the employee,  pointing out how adjusting our communication style and adopting far greater structure  would create a work environment that was far more enabling for the individual so he became happier and the business had a settled and highly productive worker who felt understood and valued.
